The American Gold Eagle is our most popular gold bullion coin. The U.S. Mint began producing the coin in 1986 to contend in the new global bullion coin market. The obverse of this coin borrows from the design on the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, while the reverse depicts eagles designed by Miley Busiek. American Gold Eagles can be purchased in different increments, including 1/10 ounce ($5), ¼ ounce ($10), ½ ounce ($25), and 1 ounce ($50).
